Memorial Weekend Recap!

A long weekend usually means an even longer time to readjust to life as usual. This memorial weekend was no different!

Because I'm a bit late with this post, I'll just leave you guys with my favorite photos from this weekend. It was Derrick's turn to visit, so we used our first beautiful, 80+ degree weekend in the city as the perfect opportunity to have some firsts.

While Derrick went to a CrossFit class in the neighborhood, Michelle and I went for a run. On the way back, we stopped for a green juice, and I picked up these beautiful flowers. Perfect for my new vase, a gift from my mama! :)

I so desperately wanted to spend at least one of the days out doing Derrick, Michelle and I made our way out to Red Hook where we played arcade games, sipped on watermelon lemonade, and enjoyed fresh seafood out by the water.

Aaannd the moment I've waited for my entire life. IKEA! My first trip to IKEA was overwhelming and exciting. I literally could live there, picking a different bathroom, living room, bedroom and office space every single day. How come no one told me how magical this place is?! We got a new dining set and coffee table for the new place. (I wonder how long it'll take us to put it together.)

I took Derrick to Habana Outpost for the first time! Since we got here before the usual busy crowd, we got to enjoy margaritas, Cuban sandwiches, and people watching in peace. Afterwards, we stumbled upon the Dance Africa 2015 Bazaar in Fort Greene. I ended up buying a pretty incredible sea salt scrub! We wandered around the neighborhood together, and I gave him a mini tour, pointing out bars I used to frequent. We stopped in one to see how things have changed over the years (a LOT.).

On Monday, we started our day at Bushwick Crossfit for a tough workout in honor of our fallen soldiers. How cute is this pup? She belonged to the owners and was the friendliest puppy I've ever seen. I thought I had an allergy to dogs, but apparently not her!

Joined by Michelle, we ventured to Williamsburg to try the popular burger joint Umami Burger. I got the "Sunny Side," which has parmesan frico, a fried egg, truffle thyme compound butter, and truffled arugula. Easily the best burger I've ever had.

We walked off our burgers at the East River Park in Williamsburg. With lots of sand and right on the water, it felt like we'd left the city for a moment. Not too much, though; this park provides an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline.

(Insert heart eyes Emoji here)

I hope everyone else enjoyed their weekend. I certainly did!
